Definition of eclectic style…
The “eclectic” adjective is increasingly appearing in the context of interior design. Eclectic style encompasses a variety of periods and styles and is brought together through the use of color, texture, shape and finish. On the other hand, eclecticism allows us to mix and combine different style into an original, harmonious whole.
Usually, when we are unable to specify what style of decorating we like – we think about eclectic style. This is a kind of cure for our arrangement dilemmas, when we dream of a Scandinavian-style apartment, but we are afraid that it won’t be cozy enough for us. The eclectic style allows us to revive and modernize the classic, often antique interior, or on the other hand – to warm up the modern look.
Ecletic style rules…
First of all, we must come up with an idea. Otherwise, we will end up in chaos – and that we obviously don’t want. Let’s think about which elements from each styles we would like to use at our home. Which items we would like to highlight and which one should only make the background. Example? You’ve always dreamed about large, solid table made of natural wood, but the rustic style doesn’t suit you at all. Advice? Choose your dream table, but with modern chairs around. Thanks to this, your interior won’t lose its modernity.
2. Choose some common accent.
It can be distinguished by form, texture or color. If you think that your interior is boring – highlight your favorite element! It can be a sofa, an armchair, a console, a wall, a lamp … but watch out with the number of highlighted accents – one, maximum two will be enough. Remember that it must create a logical whole.
3. Mix textures.
We will meet many risky connections in an eclectic apartment. Different textures and materials can create a beautiful, harmonious whole. What’s more, such connections create a warm, family atmosphere. Warning – don’t overdecorate.
4. Something old, something new.
One of the most popular combinations in eclecticism is the paring of “old”, classic elements with “new” and modern ones. Thanks to this, our interior will gain a surprising and original character.
Advantages and disadvantages of the eclectic style…
The freedom to choose your favorite elements from each style, and creating a unique interior, is undoubtedly a great advantage of eclecticism. We don’t have to follow trends, so we have a guarantee of having the original look. Of course, we must be aware of some disadvantages too. This freedom may be a kind of trap, where we can easily cross the border of harmony.
The eclectic style gives us huge possibilities. Everything here depends on our imagination, preferences and taste. Catalog interiors are not friendly to everyone and not everyone likes them. If this is your opinion, you already know which style to choose.
